Client Authenticated SMTP Settings
To enable
Authenticated SMTP in Mozilla Thunderbird:
- Click "Edit"
in the menu bar,
- Select "Mail and Newsgroups
Account Settings",
- Click "Outgoing Server(SMTP)"
in the list on left
- Type in your Auth-SMTP server's name (see notes below)
- Check the option which reads "Use name and password" (see notes below)
- Fill in your userid (the first part of your e-mail address; the
part before the @ sign)
- Click "No" for "use secure connection". (See note below on TLS)
- Click "OK" and finish setup
BCC users: (e-mail
address like xyz@bilent.edu.tr)
- Type in asmtp.bcc.bilkent.edu.tr
as the Server Name.
- Type in the userid part of your e-mail address (userid@bilkent.edu.tr)
UG users: (e-mail
address like xyz@ug.bilkent.edu.tr or
xyz@ug.bcc.bilkent.edu.tr)
- Type in asmtp.ug.bcc.bilkent.edu.tr
as the Server Name.
- Type in the userid part of your e-mail address (userid@ug.bilkent.edu.tr)
You might want
to enable TLS
(Transport Layer Security) by selecting "TLS,
if available" or "TLS", but you might
encounter
problems with security certificates; or at least will have to accept
certificates every now and then. TLS enables encrypted exchange of
information with the SMTP server during password authentication and
mail delivery.
